Metallica, Run-D.M.C. nominated for Rock Hall of Fame.

Associated Press Reported:

CLEVELAND (AP) — Run-D.M.C. could "Walk This Way" into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The 1980s rap act, along with Metallica and the Stooges, are among the nine nominees for next year's hall of fame class, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced Monday.

The other nominees are guitarist Jeff Beck, singer Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, War, Bobby Womack, and disco and R&B group Chic.

The list is notable for the wide range of musical genres represented — hip-hop, metal, punk, disco and R&B — and the large number of first-time candidates. Only Chic, the Stooges and Jackson have been previously nominated.

"It's an interesting group because it really shows the nominating committee showed some thought and energy into who should be inducted," said Joel Peresman, president and CEO of the New York City-based Rock Hall foundation. "It truly shows it's never a closed door for any artist to be nominated."

The five leading vote-getters will be announced in January and inducted April 4, 2009, in Cleveland.

The ceremony typically has been held in New York but is returning to Cleveland after more than a decade-long absence. Tickets will be made available to the public for the first time.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five opened the door for rap at the Rock Hall as the first hip-hop act to be inducted in 2007. Now, Run-D.M.C., nominated in the first year of its eligibility, has the chance to follow on the strength of rock and rap blends such as the 1986 cover of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" and classics like "It's Tricky" and "My Adidas."

"The big thing they did is took hip-hop more into the mainstream," said Jim Henke, chief curator of the hall of fame and a member of the nominating committee. "They did combine a lot of rock elements. As far as hip-hop groups go, they're certainly right there at the top."

Metallica jumped on the heavy metal wave of the '80s and 25 years later is still selling out arenas. This month the group released "Death Magnetic," which marks a return to its early speed metal days.

The Stooges, recently given props in the film "Juno," get another shot after last appearing on the ballot two years ago.

Left off the ballot were Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bon Jovi. Both had been eligible for the first time. To be nominated an act must have released its first single or album 25 years prior.

"They're great artists," Peresman said. "People's time comes for whatever reason when it does."

Rock fan Neil Walls, who started the Web site futurerockhall.com two and one-half years ago to discuss which of today's artists could end up in the hall of fame, said this year's nominees offer great diversity. But he questions why artists like Kiss, Alice Cooper, Peter Gabriel, Chicago and Rush keep getting snubbed.

"They need to go back to at least nominating 14 or 15 to at least give the voters more of an option," Walls said. "It really puts the power in the nominating committee's hands."

More than 500 musicians, industry professionals and journalists vote on the inductions.

David Blaine Starts Upside Down Stunt Over Central Park

David Blaine Starts Upside-Down Stunt Over Wollman Rink

2008_09_blainetrump.jpg

Street illusionist-stunt fiend David Blaine embarked on his 60-hour project to hang upside over Wollman Rink in Central Park. While doctors say his head won't explode from doing The Dive of Death (as it's called for his ABC special), he could very well go blind.

Last week, at a press conference with Donald Trump (Trump operates Wollman Rink), Blaine demonstrated his upside-down hanging skills. He told reporters he stopped eating a week ago, "I dropped twenty pounds, which makes it easier on the body and I don't have to go to the bathroom number two." Like his Lincoln Center fishbowl stunt, he will be using a catheter. As for the reason why, he said, "The point of all these things is I think we can endure much more than we think we can. Like, I think we can take everything – we can turn our world upside down, but we can still endure because human beings are amazing."

The Donald agreed, "I have learned from David. You would really think that some of the things he’s done are not physically or mentally possible. You can do things in your own mind that you don’t think you can do.”

Photos of The New Lincoln Penny

WASHINGTON -- Four new pennies will hit pants pockets, car ashtrays and sidewalks early next year telling the tale of President Abraham Lincoln's life on the "tails" of the coins.

The "heads" will continue to carry a portrait of Lincoln and the motto "In God We Trust."

The four designs in the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent Coin series commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln as well as the 100th anniversary of the production of the Lincoln cent (penny). The new designs will be issued in approximately three-month intervals throughout the year.

The first redesigned penny, which will honor Lincoln's birth and early childhood, will be put into circulation on Feb. 12, 2009.

"This is a momentous occasion in the history of our Nation's coinage because these designs represent the first change in the Lincoln cent in half a century," said Director Moy. "These coins are a tribute to one of our greatest Presidents whose legacy has had a lasting impact on our country. He believed all men were created equal, and his life was a model for accomplishing the American dream through honesty, integrity, loyalty, and a lifetime of education."

The four designs to be featured on the reverse of the Lincoln pennies represent four major aspects of President Lincoln's life. The inscriptions on the reverse of the coins will be "United States of America," "E Pluribus Unum" and "One Cent."

1. His birth and childhood in Kentucky

2. His formative years in Indiana

3. His professional life in Illinois

4. His Presidency in Washington, D.C.

Here is our original Post:

We've been all over Holly Madison's relationship with Criss Angel.

Now, it seems like one of Hugh Hefner's other Girls is seeing a dude other than the Playboy founder!

In a MySpace discovery reminiscent of middle school, it seems that Hef's sportiest girlfriend, Kendra Wilkenson, might be cheating on him with Philadelphia Eagles receiver Hank Baskett.

On her public MySpace page Kendra lists "HB3" (Hank is actually Hank Baskett III - very proper) as one of her heroes while Hank's private profile headlines, "HB3 in LOOOOOVVVVEEEE!!!!"

Which is MySpace code for Canoodle Alert!

Awww, the internet is so romantic!

Additionally, Kendra and the NFL-er were spotted recently at a romantical dinner at Redstone in Philly.

Neither the Player's nor the Bunny's reps had any comments regarding. Not even the popular "they're just friends."

No word yet on whether or not it was Holly stalking their MySpaces.

Update: Kendra Wilkinson was at the Eagles game Sunday in a private box!!!!!!

Russian Stock Market Resumes Trading after Two Day Halt

Moscow (AHN) - The Russian stock markets re-opened for trading on Friday after a near two day trading halt and finished more than 20 percent higher.

Friday's session on Russia's two exchanges, the RTS and MICEX, did not go off without a hitch. There were two trading halts during the day due to a sharp rise that breached technical limits.

The Russian government halted markets on Wednesday after their largest exchange, the MICEX, plummeted 25 percent in just over two days. Such a move has not been seen since Russia's financial collapse in 1998.

A main catalyst in the decline was the fleeing of foreign investors, which led to a short-term liquidity crisis. This left domestic investors uneasy and they began to exit the markets as well.

However, the halt prevented a panic in the market and gave the government ample time to react accordingly. In the end, $120 billion was supplied by the government in order to increase liquidity in the financial sector.

The MICEX rose 28.7 percent to 1098.9 and the RTS added 22.4 percent to 1295.9.

Standard and Poor's did adjust their credit rating on Russia long term debt to "stable" from "positive".

"Russia's fiscal and external buffers remain formidable, but are likely to suffer over the next 12 months as banks are re-capitalized and financial account net inflows decline or even reverse," said S&P in a report, according to the Associated Press.

Possible Insider Trading of HBOS Shares. Minutes Before Broadcast Of News On HBOS Sale, 22 Million Shares Traded

London, England (AHN) - Speculations are rife there was insider trading prior to the sale of the Halifax Bank of Scotland to Lloyds TSB last week. The insider traders earned at least $350 million from the deal.

Prior to the 9 a.m. broadcast of BBC business editor Robert Peston on Wednesday in which the HBOS sales was announced, the mortgage lender's stock had plummeted to 88 pence a share. Within 45 minutes of Peston's broadcast, the shares of HBOS rose to 215 pence.

Two large deals were made three and two minutes to broadcast time in which the buyer purchased over 22 million HBOS shares for 96 pence a share. A total of 160 million shares were traded right before Peston's newscast, which he made from his home. The two largest purchasers bought 10 million and 12.4 million shares each. The two traders made an estimated $350 million (190 million pound) profit from the sale.

Commenting on an obvious leak, Ketih Skeoch, chief of Standard Life Investments, said, "Someone was in possession of information and that information was leaked, which caused a movement in HBOS' share price... The market has a mechanism for release of information. It must be adhered to if we want to stop market abuse - and we must stop market abuse."

Meanwhile, news of another buy-in caused stocks to Bradford and Bingley to leap by 17 percent. B and B reportedly have three interested purchasers - foreign banks Santander, ING and NAB. It is U.K.'s sole stand-alone mortgage lender after HBOS was bought by Lloyds TBS, Alliance and Leicester was purchased by Santander and Northern Rock was nationalized.
