Report: Rep. Mahoney Settles Suit With Ex-Mistress

Democratic representative pays more than $100,000 to ex-mistress and former staff aide who sued after he threatened her job.

Rep. Tim Mahoney has paid $121,000 to a former mistress who worked on his staff and had sued him after he threatened her job when she tried to end the relationship, former and current staff aides told ABC News on Monday.

Mahoney, D-Fla., won his congressional seat in 2006 after Republican Rep. Mark Foley was forced to resign in the wake of a scandal involving a congressional page.

According to ABC News, Mahoney, who is married, started the affair with Patricia Allen while campaigning against Foley on a morality platform. Allen came on to his staff after he won the election in 2006, but when complaints about the affair surfaced, Mahoney moved Allen to the campaign staff, aides told the broadcast network.

ABC reported Allen tried to break off the affair after learning Mahoney was supposedly cheating on her and his wife with other women. In response, he threatened her job.

"You work at my pleasure," Mahoney told Allen in a taped Jan. 20, 2008, telephone call played for Mahoney staffers, ABC reported.

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel spoke to Mahoney in early 2007 about his personal conduct, FOX News confirmed Monday. Emanuel formerly headed up the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the panel charged with electing Democrats to Congress.

Sources told FOX News that Emanuel did not know the woman was a staff aide or payments were being offered to her until informed by ABC News.

"Upon hearing a rumor, Congressman Emanuel confronted Congressman Mahoney, told him he was in public life and had a responsibility to act accordingly and appropriately, and urged him to do so. They had no further conversations on this topic," an aide to Emanuel said in a statement.

Asked about the affair, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she didn't know anything about the financial settlement.

"This is completely news to me," Pelosi said when pressed on whether the Democratic leadership kept quiet about the affair so as not to hurt his re-election chances.

Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen, who chairs the DCCC this year, declined to answer a question about Mahoney.

Mahoney is one of the most-endangered Democrats this election cycle.West Palm Beach is a conservative-leaning community that gave Bush an 8 point margin of victory in 2004.

It's widely argued that Mahoney won in 2006 less on his own merit than because of the scandal surrounding Foley. Knowing he'd be in the GOP cross hairs this cycle, Mahoney raised $2.5 million for re-election, but he faces a stiff challenge from Republican Tom Rooney, whose family owns the Pittsburgh Steelers.

McCormick tells all about `Brady Bunch,' drug addiction

NEW YORK (AP) — As Marcia Brady on "The Brady Bunch," Maureen McCormick projected an image of the wholesome girl next door. But off camera, she spiraled downward into drug addiction and depression.

Now 52, McCormick writes about her struggles in a new memoir, "Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice," hitting stores Tuesday. She discusses her romance with TV sibling Barry Williams, her dates with Michael Jackson and Steve Martin, cocaine binges and parties at the Playboy Mansion and the home of Sammy Davis Jr., an unwanted pregnancy and trading sex for drugs.

McCormick was 14 when "The Brady Bunch" debuted on ABC, running from 1969 to 1974. Despite her role as a sunny Miss Perfect, she struggled privately with anxiety and insecurity, the youngest of four children born to a mercurial father who abused and cheated on their mother.

"As a teenager, I had no idea that few people are everything they present to the outside world," she writes in the book, published by William Morrow. "Yet there I was, hiding the reality of my life behind the unreal perfection of Marcia Brady. ... No one suspected the fear that gnawed at me even as I lent my voice to the chorus of Bradys singing, `It's a Sunshine Day.'"

When "The Brady Bunch" ended, she took up a hard-partying lifestyle in Hollywood, using drugs including cocaine and Quaaludes. She struggled to regain her earlier success, landing some TV and movie roles, but developed a reputation for unreliability due to her addiction, even botching an interview with Steven Spielberg because she was high.

After interventions, stints in rehab and experimental therapies, McCormick began getting sober in 1985 when she married actor Michael Cummings, with whom she has a daughter, Natalie. She continued to fight depression through therapy, medication and the help of "Brady" cast mates.

McCormick, who is also a singer, starred on the Country Music Television reality series "Gone Country" and "Outsider's Inn." She also confronted her weight issues several years ago as the winning contestant on the VH1 reality show "Celebrity Fit Club."

As for her iconic role, "I'll always be struck by how much a part of people's lives Marcia is and always will be. But now I'm not bothered by the connection. It took most of my life, countless mistakes and decades of pain and suffering to reach this point of equanimity and acceptance," she says.

(Video) McCain respectfully says he will Whip his "you know what" in the Debate.

He is getting heat over this but I love it. He was not rude in anyway.  He was talking to campaign workers.  I am sure the Obama campaign will have a problem with it.  This is what I want to see out of McCain.

Paddington Bear is now 50 years old and is being celebrated on the home page of Google with a custom logo.

Paddington Bear is now 50 years old and is being celebrated on the home page of Google with a custom logo. Paddington Bear first emerged on the scene on October 13th 1958.

addington Bear is well known for his impeccable manners. He always refers to people he just meets as "Mr" or "Mrs".

Paddington Bear has been the subject of books, and even a series of toys that bear his image.

Finally, a new Paddington Bear movie is in the works.

The author of Paddington Bear was Michael Bond, who says his inspiration was quite simple. He saw a bear at a toy store, and it gave him the idea for a story.

"I bought a small toy bear on Christmas Eve 1956," he said. "I saw it left on a shelf in a London store and felt sorry for it. I took it home as a present for my wife Brenda and named it Paddington as we were living near Paddington Station at the time. I wrote some stories about the bear, more for fun than with the idea of having them published. After ten days I found that I had a book on my hands. It wasn't written specifically for children, but I think I put into it the kind things I liked reading about when I was young."

Obama and ACORN together.

Now,  let me say,  I don't think Obama is a bad person or evil or anything but he is much more Democratic than he lets on.
