Mouse Soon To Become Obsolete

Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - A special pair of gloves used in the movie "Minority Report" may make the computer mouse obsolete. Oblong Industries, a Los Angeles-based computer firm, is developing a smaller version of the device.

John Underkoffler, who is developing the system, was one of the scientific advisers to the production team of the Steven Spielberg science fiction movie shown in 2002.

In the film, instead of using a mouse to navigate, a special gloves called G-Speak was utilized. It used intricate hand movements, which allows the user more freedom to manipulate what is on the screen, than the normal drag-and-click system employed by the mouse.

Underkoffler said he hopes to produce a desktop version of the glove to cost about $30 (20 pound).

The mouse was first introduced in 1981 as part of the Xerox 8010 Star Information System.
