Michelle Bachmann Congresswoman from Minnesota Suggests Obamas Have Anti-American Views

On MSNBC's Hardball, Rep. Michelle Bachmann, R-Minn., said the "collection of friends that Barack Obama has had over this life" -- specifically Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers -- "calls into question what Barack Obama's true beliefs and values and thoughts are."

Bachmann also pointed out that Obama had been rated one year by the National Journal as the most liberal Senator, prompting Chris Matthews to ask what the connection is between being liberal and being anti-American.

"The liberals that are Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers  they're over the top anti-American," Bachmann said, "Remember it was Michelle Obama who said she's only recently proud of her country, these are very anti-American views."

"I'm very concerned that he may have anti-American views," Bachmann said.

"The people that Barack Obama has been associating with are anti-American, by and large," Bachmann said.

>> How Jocelyn Kirsch and boyfriend stole money

Jocelyn Kirsch, 23, and boyfriend Anderton, 25, made use of their friends and neighbors' identity, entering their apartments to steal mailbox keys.

Kirsch and Anderton made fake drivers' licenses for themselves using a machine they bought, after that selling laptops and iPods on eBay, items that actually were inexistent.

The couple wrapped more than $160,000 from friends and neighbors

Photos released by police in December, after the arrest of the two, are a proof that the lovers travelled in Paris and Hawaii.

The photos were called by a U.S. attorney "poster children" for identity fraud.

Kirsch wrote a four-page letter to the judge, in which she describes her recent stay in prison as "the first period of real calm in ... a very long time."

"One small thing led to a number of larger indiscretions and before I knew it we were doing more and more dangerous things; spending our money recklessly, drinking, lying, stealing," wrote Kirsch.

Kirsch is going to spend her next 5 years in prison for the crime and will have to pay back the money she stole from 50 people.

Hugh Hefner fuels bankruptcy reports by selling tickets for mansion.

Credit crunch has not even spared Hugh Hefner - and conditions at his end have gone so worse that the Playboy founder has opened doors of his renowned mansion to the public - for a fee.

According to reports, Hefner was advised last month to fire some of his staff in his Los Angeles and New York offices to avoid financial ruin.

But, his spokesperson Elizabeth Austin gave no definite answer about the financial problems the company was facing at the time.

The Playboy boss has since extended an invitation to the exclusive parties held at the mansion, in return for money.

The tickets to the notorious parties range from 5,000 dollars to 25,000 dollars, depending on the celebrities in attendance.

Hefner has to pay a reported rent of 700,000 dollars annually for the mansion, owned by his Playboy Enterprises.

Meanwhile, a company spokesperson has denied that Hefner’s recent split from girlfriends Holly Madison and Kendra Wilkinson have anything to do with his monetary problems.

The girls “are not even on the payroll. So, they would be the last to go,” reports Contactmusic. (ANI)

US Climber Survives On Centipedes

A US climber has described how he ate centipedes and drank from streams as he spent five freezing nights on a mountain after breaking his ankle.

Derek Mamoyac, 27, was plucked to safety from the west side of Mount Adams in southern Washington nearly a week after setting off on a one-day hike.

The hiker, who was found dehydrated and with swollen legs, said he had fallen and broken his ankle in loose snow near the summit of the volcanic mountain.

For five days he crawled through the snow and ate the few bugs he could find in a desperate attempt to survive.

Mr Mamoyac was eventually found at 6,000m by Trulee, a golden retriever search dog, and flown to hospital.

Family members who spoke with him briefly by phone said he sounded well.

"It's like waking up from a horrible dream," said his sister, Sophia Mamoyac.

The rescue team reported that Mamoyac was in good shape for having spent so long on the mountainside.

"We get happy endings, but not at the end of a five-day search," rescuer Greg Varney said.

At 12,277 feet (3,740m), Mount Adams rises to nearly three times the height of Ben Nevis - Britain's highest mountain.

Today is Sweetest Day. What is that?

Pretty soon there is going to be a Holiday for Everyday of the year.

According to Wikipedia.

Sweetest Day is an observance celebrated primarily in the Great Lakes region and parts of the Northeast United States on the third Saturday in October[1]. It is described by Retail Confectioners International as an "occasion which offers all of us an opportunity to remember not only the sick, aged and orphaned, but also friends, relatives and associates whose helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed."[2] Sweetest Day has also been referred to as a "concocted promotion"[3] created by the candy industry solely to increase sales of candy.

Mervyn's to liquidate, 'going out of business' sales

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The tightening credit market has claimed the life of yet another retailer, with bankrupt department-store chain Mervyn's the latest to call it quits.
After exhausting all other options, Mervyn's, the 59-year old retailer in California and the Southwest, said it plans to hold "going out of business" sales during the holidays at all of its remaining 149 locations. The Hayward, Calif.-based company, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July, said that it will offer deep discounts to drive traffic to its stores.
"We are disappointed with this outcome," said Mervyn's Chief Executive John Goodman. "Although we took a number of steps to improve our financial performance, we were unable to return the company to profitability."
Mervyn's joined other retailers such as Linens 'n Things that decided to fold their operations after the financial-sector meltdown squeezed off sources of financing for companies across the board, let alone struggling chains seeking a turnaround, analysts have said. Mervyn's deep discounts during the holidays, the industry's biggest selling period, are also expected to further pressure rival department stores and other retailers that already are headed for their worst holiday season, by some measures, in 17 years.
Department stores and apparel retailers have been among the worst hit as fears of recession and wild swings in the stock market have curtailed consumer spending for discretionary merchandise. Analysts have said this holiday season may be a make-or-break time for even more retailers, and pressure mall and other commercial-property developers with increased vacancies. Cheap-apparel chain Steve & Barry's and electronic-gadgets retailer Sharper Image were among others that had filed for bankruptcy, resulting in additional store closings. End of Story

Lahde, who bet versus subprimes, quits hedge funds

NEW YORK, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Andrew Lahde, the hedge fund founder who shot to fame with his small fund that soared 870 percent last year on bets against U.S. subprime home loans, has called it quits, thanking "stupid" traders for making him rich.

In a biting, but humorous letter to investors posted on the website of Portfolio magazine on Friday, Lahde told investors last month he will no longer manage money because his bank counterparties had become too risky.

Lahde ripped his profession in the letter. He noted another hedge-fund manager who recently closed shop and was quoted in The Wall Street Journal as saying: "What I have learned about the hedge fund business is that I hate it." To which Lahde responded, "I could not agree more with that statement.

"The low-hanging fruit, i.e. idiots whose parents paid for prep school, Yale and then the Harvard MBA, was there for the taking," said Lahde, who according to the website birthdates.com is 37.

"These people who were (often) truly not worthy of the education they received (or supposedly received) rose to the top of companies such as AIG, Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers and all levels of our government. All of this behavior supporting the Aristocracy, only ended up making it easier for me to find people stupid enough to take the other side of my trades. God bless America."

Lahde, whose Lahde Capital's Short Credit Fund returned 886 percent in 2007, said he didn't have a strong opinion about any market other than to comment, "Things will continue to get worse for some time, probably years."

But while he will no longer manage money for high-net worth individuals or institutions, he will continue to manage the wealth he has amassed.

"Some people, who think they have arrived at a reasonable estimate of my net worth, might be surprised that I would call it quits with such a small war chest," he said. "I am content with my rewards. Moreover, I will let others try to amass nine-, 10- or 11-figure net worths. Meanwhile, their lives suck."

Last autumn, the Financial Times reported that Lahde had launched a fund to bet against commercial real estate -- which made 42 percent in its first two months.

"I now have time to repair my health, which was destroyed by the stress I layered onto myself over the past two years, as well as my entire life -- where I had to compete for spaces in universities and graduate schools, jobs and assets under management -- with those who had all the advantages (rich parents) that I did not," Lahde said. (Photo) Pa. man chews through belly-busting, 15-lb. burger

PHoto

CLEARFIELD, Pa. (AP) — It took Brad Sciullo 4 hours and 39 minutes to finish a marathon. A meat marathon, that is. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound western Pennsylvania chef is the first person to eat a monstrosity called the Beer Barrel Belly Bruiser: a 15-pound burger with toppings and a bun that brought the total weight to 20.2 pounds.

The mountain of beef is the product of Denny's Beer Barrel Pub, about 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh in Clearfield.

Sciullo, 21, of Uniontown, said he was surprised he finished the sandwich Monday. "About three hours into it, things got tough," he said.

When asked what possessed him to eat a burger that big, Sciullo said: "I wanted to see if I could."

The burger included a bun, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, mild banana peppers and a cup each of mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and relish, pub owner Dennis Liegey said.

For completing the challenge in the under-five-hour time limit, Sciullo won $400, three T-shirts, a certificate "and a burger hangover, as I call it," Liegey said.

Obama Bucks. Outragous

Here is the AP Story.  I find it hard to believe this gal didn't know what she was doing.  This is terrible.   I am sorry to be reporting this but it is news.  I am sorry to all our African American friends and Senator Obama.  My daughter had a room mate that is African American and she used to tell me that she would feel embarrassed about eating watermelon in public because of the stereo type.  This young woman obviously had some sort of trauma in her past.    Now,  I am Caucasian and my two Caucasian kids eat so much watermelon that I could go through one whole watermelon in two days.  Just imagine, how it must feel to be embarrassed by this.  We need to put ourselves in each others shoes.  This is hurtful.    It may seem harmless but I know first hand this is not.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — A San Bernardino County Republican group has distributed a newsletter picturing Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on a $10 bill adorned with a watermelon, ribs and a bucket of fried chicken.

Linking Obama to demeaning racist stereotypes drew denunciations from various GOP officials after the illustration appeared in the October newsletter of the Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported Thursday.

Diane Fedele, president of the group, said she had no racist intent.

"I never connected," she told the newspaper. "It was just food to me. It didn't mean anything else."

The Obama campaign declined to comment, saying it does not address such attacks.

The newsletter was sent to about 200 club members and associates last week by mail and e-mail. The club is a volunteer group that is not directly responsible to the state party, said California Republican Party press secretary Hector Barajas, who denounced the newsletter.

Fedele said she had received the illustration in e-mails and decided to reprint it to poke fun at a remark by Obama that he doesn't look like other presidents.

"It was strictly an attempt to point out the outrageousness of his statement. I really don't want to go into it any further," Fedele told the newspaper. "I absolutely apologize to anyone who was offended. That clearly wasn't my attempt."

Sheila Raines of San Bernardino, a black member of the club, complained about the image to Fedele.

"This is what keeps African-Americans from joining the Republican Party," she said. "I'm really hurt. I cried for 45 minutes."

(Video) After debate, candidates face roast at Alfred E. Smith Dinner

Barack Obama and GOP rival John McCain trade their boxing gloves for formal wear - and some self-deprecating humor - at Thursday night's Alfred E. Smith Dinner.

The annual see-and-be-seen political roast, named for the famed 1920s New York governor, is "the last time they're going to be together before the election," said Smith's great-grandson and namesake.

The dinner has a storied history, having featured luminaries fromWinston Churchill to George W. Bush.

And with the excitement generated by the presidential candidates at the top of the marquee, this year's soldout soiree has surpassed its goal of raising $2.5 million for Catholic causes.

"I've heard from people I haven't heard from in 20 years," Smith told the Daily News.

Political heavyweights will pepper the dais: Sen. Hillary Clinton, Gov. Paterson, Mayor Bloomberg and formerSecretary of State Henry Kissinger.

Former Gov. George Pataki, former Mayor Ed Koch and Manhattan District AttorneyRobert Morgenthau will be there, too.

When Smith approached then-McCain adviser John Weaver about the Republican nominee appearing, "He said, 'We'll be there.' I said, 'I haven't given you the date yet.' He said, 'Doesn't matter.'"

McCain spoke at the Al Smith dinner in 2005.

Getting Team Obama to commit was slightly more work: "My line to them was, 'I know you're coming. You know you're coming.'"

McCain and Obama will each deliver 15-minute talks.

Appearing at the Al Smith dinner is a tradition for presidential candidates, with both major nominees typically attending in an election year.

"They say Jack Kennedy won the [1960] election at the Al Smith Dinner," Smith said in his office at St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Centers, which features an array of Gov. Smith's photos and an Obama bobble-head doll.

In 2004, Democrat John Kerry - a Catholic - was not invited, presumably for his pro-choice stance on abortion. As a result, President Bush also did not attend.

Alfred E. Smith, the nation's first Catholic presidential candidate back in 1928, died in 1944. The first dinner in his honor came a year later at the behest of then-Archbishop Francis Spellman. Since then, it has become one of the premier fund-raisers for the Archdiocese of New York.

Last year, with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair headlining, the dinner raised $1.8 million for charity, Smith's great-grandson said.

PETER COOK'S SEX WITH TEEN ON TAPE

RUMORS of an explicit home video showing Christie Brinkley's slimy hubby Peter Cook having sex with his curvy teen office worker Diana Bianchi have made the rounds for months, and now Page Six can reveal the truth - it does exist.

PHOTO GALLERY: Diana Bianchi

Yesterday, we were shown a series of stills from a video depicting Cook and Bianchi, both nude, having sexual intercourse on a brown love seat. They also show Bianchi performing a sizzling striptease down to a pair of black, G-string panties and then to her birthday suit as Cook holds his crotch.

Another shows Cook resting his head on Bianchi's buttocks. It appears the tape was made at Cook's Southampton architectural office without Bianchi's knowledge. But other stills that are apparently not from the video show Bianchi willingly posing topless.

In July, Brinkley settled her nasty divorce with the philandering Cook - who detonated their 10-year marriage with his affair with then-18-year-old Bianchi - for just $2.1 million of her $60 million fortune. She also won full custody of their kids. Cook, who confessed to a $3,000-a-month online porn habit, doled out $300,000 to Bianchi in a legal settlement that kept her mum and prevented a likely sex-harassment lawsuit.

One theory why Cook settled for so little is that Brinkley found the pictures on his computer and used them as leverage. Brinkley's lawyer Robert Cohen said: "Nothing about Peter Cook's behavior shocks us. We don't know anything about this tape. We never saw it and we never heard about it. Christie's concern is for the sake of her children and she hopes this video is kept private."

Bianchi's lawyer, Joe Tacopina, said she may sue Cook over the video. "We are now going to review, and begin weighing our legal options, for Diana," he told The Post's Dan Mangan. Cook declined to comment, but a source close to him said: "He has no knowledge that any such material exists, but it is well known that Cook and Bianchi had a consensual affair, so anything is possible."

Social Security Benefits to Rise 5.8%

WASHINGTON -- More than 55 million Americans will see a 5.8% boost in their monthly and supplemental Social Security benefits next year, the Social Security Administration announced Thursday.

That figure represents the largest increase in Social Security benefits since 1982.

The 5.8% cost-of-living adjustment will take effect for 50 million Social Security beneficiaries in January of next year. Another roughly 7 million people who receive supplementary Social Security income will start to see payment increases on Dec. 31.

Social Security benefits increase each year based on the rise in the Consumer Price Index. The increase comes at a time when many Americans are struggling economically in the wake of the financial crisis.

But while some will benefit from the cost-of-living adjustment, others also will be paying more in taxes in 2009.

Each January, certain changes take effect based on the increase in average wages. For 2009, the maximum amount of earnings subject to Social Security tax will increase from $102,000 to $106,800. That means that of the estimated 164 million workers who will pay Social Security taxes next year, about 11 million will pay higher taxes.
