Tom Brady's Website Confirms Surgeries to Fix Knee Infection. TomBrady.com

Tom Brady was facing an uphill battle as it was to return from his season ending knee injury. Brady already confirmed on his website last week that there was an infection on his injured knee, and another procedure was needed to clean it out. But sources tell the Boston Herald that Brady's knee has undergone two more procedures, further pushing back Brady's recovery and creating even more worry that he may never be the same.

The infection was caught after Brady's first surgery on October 6. Doctors have feared that the infection could affect the patellar tendon graft in Brady's injured ACL. If that happens, Brady would have to have another ACL reconstruction from scratch, putting him back to square one.

Brady wrote on his website last week that he had the infection, but it was "very treatable." However, the fact that more surgeries were needed to clean it out give the Patriots and their anxious fans more pause for thought.

Brady's season ended early on in the Patriots first game of the season. Without Brady, the Patriots are 4-2 but are back in the middle of the AFC pack, instead of leading it. This season may turn out to be a wash or not for the Patriots, but they also need to have an eye on whenever Brady comes back.

Brady has frequently been compared to Joe Montana all throughout his career. Fittingly, Montana also suffered a leg injury in the prime of his career, in the 1991 NFC championship game. The injury knocked Montana out for a full year, and there were complications that delayed his return, just like Brady might face.

However, by the time Montana finally returned, Steve Young became an MVP for the 49'ers. Matt Cassel is unlikely to do the same thing for the Patriots. But when Montana got hurt, it was unthinkable to picture that two years later, the 49'ers would have to release their iconic star to Kansas City. No one can say for sure what the situation will be for Brady if he returns, either.

In Montana's case, he was already aging and only played two more years for the Chiefs. Brady is still relatively young and should have more time, but the injury could still affect how much time he has left.
