Movie star Mark Ruffalo's younger brother is reportedly clinging to life after a mysterious shooting at his Beverly Hills home.

A source said Scott Ruffalo, 39, was shot in the head early Monday and rushed to the hospital after emergency workers were summoned by a 911 call.

Details were sketchy and Beverly Hills cops would not release the victim's identity or even confirm that he was shot.

"If there was a shooting, our detectives would investigate whether it was homicical, accidental or suicidal," said spokesman Lt. Tony Lee.

"We haven't pinpointed anything yet."

A publicist for Mark Ruffalo said he had no comment.

The 41-year-old actor has starred in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "Zodiac" and "13 Going on 30." His film career was sidelined for two years because of a benign brain tumor.

His younger brother is married with a stepdaughter. It's unclear if either was home when he was shot.
