Chinese Man Admits to Murdering Model Diana O’Brien

A Chinese migrant worker has admitted to the July murder of Canadian model Diana O’Brien. During his trial Monday, Chen Jun said that he entered O’Brien’s Shanghai apartment after he found her door open. He attempted to steal her laptop, but O’Brien caught him.

Jun, 18, threatened O’Brien with a knife and she ran from her apartment. He caught her in the stairwell and stabbed her repeatedly. Jun says he called police to the scene as O’Brien, 22, was still alive. “I decided not to help her this time. I called the police, and they must have been there. I thought there’s no need to call again,” Jun said.

O’Brien’s body was not found until hours later when a janitor entered the building to clean.

Shanghai police arrested Jun four days after the stabbing. Authorities saw him on surveillance footage and arrested him at his home in Anhui. Money, jewelry, phones and a digital camera from the model’s apartment were found in his home.
