Commissioner Bud Selig announced Thursday that the major league owners have formally approved Hal Steinbrenner, the Yankees’ co-chairman, to be the club’s control person after a request from George M. Steinbrenner, the principal owner.
Each major league club has a designated person who is accountable to Major League Baseball for the operation of the club and the club’s adherence to the league’s rules.
Hal was chosen by the Steinbrenner family over his more vocal brother, Hank, the other co-chairman.
