Five people who own homes and have well-paying jobs were charged Thursday with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in welfare payments.
Among those charged were Marina Gavrielova, 36, and Arkadiy Abramov, 39, who allegedly hid the fact that they lived together and took expensive trips to exotic locations while getting $360,000 over five years, prosecutors said.
Vlastimir Matorkik, 41, a banquet server at the Westin Hotel in Times Square, allegedly got $37,000 in Medicaid benefits while taking in over $200,000 annually.
Also indicted were Richard Greenstein, 41, a Long Island title insurance executive who earned more than $300,000 in 2007; and Shalom Mizrahi, 33, who owns a women's loungewear firm with an office in the Empire State Building.
The defendants, who were arraigned in Brooklyn Supreme Court, variously face between seven and 15 years for grand larceny, falsifying documents and other charges.
