Bill Heard Chevrolet Dealership to close it's Doors in Tampa Bay.

TAMPA—Bill Heard Chevrolet will close its 13-store operation, including its Plant City dealership, published reports say.

That means 150-200 people at the Plant City location will likely be out of jobs; 3500 people companywide will be looking for work.

At the Plant City location Wednesday, desks had been cleared out.

Employees who spoke with FOX 13 said they had little notice; in fact, one mechanic said there was a meeting last week where managers told employees the company was doing just fine.

Executives say the economic downturn is to blame; that banks tightened requirements for customers to get loans.

Bill Heard enterprises was one of the largest dealerships in the country.
