Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) - Former Olympic sprinter Tim Montgomery was sentenced to five years in prison by a district court judge Friday on heroin charges.
Montgomery entered a guilty plea on July 3 after an agreement with government officials, and on Friday learned of his sentence from Judge Jerome B. Friedman in Virginia.
A former gold medalist as part of the 400-meter relay team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Montgomery was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute.
Montgomery's heroin prison sentence won't begin until after he finishes serving a four-year term for a check-fraud scheme in New York.
