It's all in jest, but ABC is using high gas prices to boost TV viewing in its marketing campaign for the fall season by dubbing its premiere week "National Stay at Home Week."
The stunt kicks off Sept. 21 - the night the Emmys will air on ABC.
Although it hasn't been formally announced (with Variety "breaking" the story), ABC is going the viral video route, trying to create a buzz with Internet video.
It features old-time telephone operators fielding questions from ABC viewers, with one of the operators explaining, "With gas prices so high, the economy taking a nosedive and global warming, it's just better to stay in and enjoy great ABC TV, thank you."
