Maseru, Lesotho (AHN) - Experts are verifying if a recently mined diamond from the south African country of Lesotho could be the world's largest polished diamond.
The unnamed rough diamond is about 478 carats. Experts believe that a 150 carat polished diamond could be made from the stone, making it the largest in the world.
A similar diamond from the same mine in Lesotho was given a price tag of $12 million but its clearness and round shape may give it higher value.
BBC reported that the Koh-i-noor diamond holds the record for the largest round cut diamond at 105 carats while the biggest diamond to date is the Cullinan diamond, which is included in the British Crown Jewels, at 3,100 carats.
Lesotho has already produced three of the world's biggest diamonds.
